Yes! Good Q.
They are 2nd and 3rd degree polynomials… (The straight line is practically a 1st degree polynomial.)
So they are not f(x) = x but f(x) = x^2 and f(x) = x^3 and so on.
I’ll get back to this in detail in a later article.

Great article on linear regression. I was plotting stock prices and when I put in 1 I got the straight line. When I change the value to another number 2, 3, etc I started to get a curve along the stock price. Can you explain what I getting? Thanks. Art.

hey Micaela,

I’m not 100% sure what caused this for you…
But most probably, you have accidentally ran the commands in the wrong order.
So please just go through the article and make sure you do everything as in it and it’ll just work! : )

“NotFittedError: This LinearRegression instance is not fitted yet. Call ‘fit’ with appropriate arguments before using this estimator.”

Now I have a better idea of what we are doing at the startup where I work
